Geopolitics of Nordheim and the Taygran Confederacy

Nordheim is an island nation in the northeast portion of the known world. It is heavily populated and is always looking for more resources to continue growth. The Taygran Confederacy (TC) is larger island southeast of Nordheim. The Taygran Confederacy is made up of three separate nations but the most dominant one is Taygran itself. Nordheim and the TC have been in conflict for close to 500 years (or possibly longer). It has changed in intensity many times, ranging from ‘cold war’ style tensions, to all out invasions in both directions. This has taken a turn over the last century or so because of the discovery and colonization of the huge landmass to the west. The two nations have tried different means of gaining control of this new land and its resources. The TC has greatly invested in exploring as much of the coast line as possible over the last century. The Confederacy has multiple ports and outposts along much of the southern coast of the new land. But since they have focused on the coasts, they control only a small portion of any inland sections of the new land. What they do control is known as New Taygran. Nordheim tried something different and focused on the region that lies closest to the homeland. Instead of moving around the coast, Nord forces pushed into the interior as much as possible in the eastern portion of the new land, as far as the Maerguard River. The Nord colonist focused on building settlements, ‘working’ with native races and making it as economically viable as they could. They named this land Westheim and modeled the political structure after the homeland of Nordheim. The Nord set up a capital at Tameworth on the Maerguard River, which rivals many of the large cities of the homeland, and encouraged immigration to the many cities and towns that dot Westheim. Most of the natural resources of Westheim are sent back for use in Nordheim, because of the large population there. The Spearhead Initiative is a Nord government program with the goal of gaining control of a much larger portion of the new unexplored continent. The idea is to build a series of roads that will allow easier (and safer) access into the central portion of the new land from multiple points. The city of Spearhead is the focal point of this program. The Nord government is spending tremendous amounts of money to hire people to explore (and subjugate) the unknown lands west of the city of Spearhead. The plan is to send hired mercenaries into the western lands to map, note, and bring back any news of what lies beyond Nord’s influence in Westheim.
